Fernando Pérez

He Is a Guatemalan Percussionist Musician, he course in 1981 at the National Conservatory of Music in Guatemala, Solfeggio, Flute, Piano and Percussion. He specializes in Latin percussion instruments such as bongo, timpani, tumbadoras and all those percussion instruments to be used in Afro-Cuban rhythms.

He has played with the orchestras of Julio Sabala, Maria Marta Serra Lima, among others. He has brought to his country great music personalities such as Daniel Binelli, Dave Weckl, Furat Kauduri, Jim Oldren, Victor Tomassino, Tito Puente Jr, Bobby and Roberto Carcassès, the drummer Peter Szndofi of Hungary, the “Compay Segundo” group, among others. In 1994 he attends an Afro-Cuban music workshop in Banff, Alberta Canada, with the best musicians in Cuba such as José Quintana “Changuito” considered the greatest of the percussion masters worldwide. He received “Rumba Habanera” classes and in 1995 he attended to the World Percussion Festival at Berklee College of Music in the city of Boston; He also attended to an intensive seminar on Afro-Cuban percussion techniques and Performance with Giovanni Hidalgo.

He has stood out inside and outside our borders in the styles of Rock, Salsa, Latin Jazz and Afro-Cuban Rhythms music and has reaped great triumphs in the concerts of his works having several tours and presentations. Also thanks to his effort and professionalism he obtains several awards such as ARCOIRIS MAYA, CEIBA DE ORO, the Applause Award given by DO MI SOL, A diploma from “Universidad De San Carlos de Guatemala” for his 25 years of dedication and enrichment of the country’s National Culture, he received recognition from the Film, Radio and Television association of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba for His outstanding artistic career, among others.

He has 4 studio albums with the collaboration of the best jazz musicians which are “En El Barrio”, “Mi Padre El Jazz”, Caravana Más Allá Del Jazz” and “Jazz De Luna”. Currently continues to play with his Latin Jazz Band alternating with different musicians and artists.
